Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has appointed a new Head of Service and a fresh Attorney-General to join his administration.
The Governor announced these changes on Monday at the Government House in Awka. These appointments form part of a strategic cabinet reshuffle to strengthen the civil service and the justice sector.
The Governor named Mr. Samuel Onwubiko as the new Head of the Civil Service. He replaces the outgoing head who reached the mandatory retirement age earlier this month.
In the same briefing, Professor Soludo appointed Dr. Nkemakolam Ike as the new Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice.
The governor said new appointments align with his vision for a more efficient and digitised workforce.
Soludo said that the state needs fresh energy to implement its long-term development goals.
The new Head of Service, Mr. Onwubiko, is a veteran administrator with years of experience in various ministries. Governor Soludo said that the civil service remains the engine room of government operations.
He wants the new leadership to focus on discipline and accountability among state employees.
“We are bringing in individuals with proven track records to help us build a more productive state,” Soludo stated. He noted that the transition must be smooth to avoid any delay in government projects.
Furthermore, the Governor alleged that the civil service must adapt to new technologies to reduce bureaucracy.
“Our goal is to ensure that every civil servant in Anambra works with a mindset of excellence,” he added.
A New Direction For The Ministry Of Justice
Dr. Nkemakolam Ike takes over the Ministry of Justice with a focus on clearing the backlog of state legal matters.
The Governor noted that the justice sector is critical for maintaining peace and order in the state. He wants the new Attorney-General to prioritize the protection of the rights of all citizens.
“The law must be a tool for progress and not an obstacle to our people,” the Governor stated. He noted that the state will continue to support the judiciary to ensure a fair and speedy trial for all.
Ike previously served as a consultant on legal matters for several international organizations.
His appointment comes at a time when Anambra is looking to update its state laws to attract more foreign investment.
The state government noted that these new leaders will take their oaths of office later this week. This reshuffle follows several months of performance reviews conducted by a special committee.
The administration noted that more appointments might follow as the state continues its transformation agenda.
