Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has officially approved a ₦10,000 monthly salary top-up for all civil servants in the state.
This emergency payment is a direct response to the rising cost of petrol and transportation across the country.
The Governor shared this update on Monday, March 23, 2026, during a public programme held in Ibadan.
He noted that the extra funds would help workers manage the high cost of living while the government looks for more permanent solutions.
The new policy will begin in April 2026. Currently, the plan is set to run for at least three months, though the Governor alleged that it could be extended if economic conditions do not improve.
A Flat Rate For All Civil Servants And Local Government Staff
Governor Makinde emphasized that the payment is not based on grade levels. Instead, every single person on the state payroll will receive the same amount to ensure fairness during these difficult times.
“All workers in Oyo State and the local government starting from April will be given ₦10,000 in addition to their monthly salary as petrol/transportation support,” Makinde stated. “All workers, everybody. It is a flat rate,” he added.
Furthermore, the Governor alleged that residents who are not employed by the state government might also benefit from future interventions.
He noted that his team is working to make the relief “all-inclusive” so that more families can feel the impact.
As his administration moves toward its final phase, Makinde noted that he is focused on leaving a legacy of stable policies.
He believe that providing a cushion for workers is essential for maintaining a productive workforce.
“As I approach the end of my administration, one of the things I’m particularly focused on is ensuring continuity,” the Governor said. He noted that these types of impactful policies must remain a priority for the state.
This development provides some immediate relief to workers and their families in Oyo State. With an extra ₦10,000 in the monthly budget, many households can better afford the daily commute to work or the market.
