Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo has officially begun his second four-year journey as the Governor of Anambra State.
In a vibrant ceremony held at the newly renovated Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka today, Tuesday, March 17, 2026, the former Central Bank Governor took the oath of office alongside his deputy, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim.
The atmosphere in the capital was electric as the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Onochie Anyachebelu, administered the oaths of office and allegiance to the duo at precisely 11:05 AM, marking the commencement of a mandate that will run until 2030.
The inauguration drew an unprecedented assembly of Nigerian political heavyweights.
Vice President Kashim Shettima represented the Federal Government, while the presence of former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan underscored the national significance of Soludo’s administrative style.
Other notable attendees included:
- Emeka Anyaoku, former Commonwealth Secretary-General.
- Siminalayi Fubara, Governor of Rivers State.
- Traditional rulers from the 179 communities of Anambra State.
- Delegates from the 326 political wards of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
Reflecting on a Landslide Mandate
Soludo’s second term follows his historic victory in the November 8, 2025 governorship election.
In a feat rarely seen in Nigerian off-cycle polls, Soludo swept all 21 Local Government Areas of the state.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) reported that out of 2,788,864 registered voters, 598,229 were accredited, reflecting a credible and peaceful electoral process.
Security and Strategic Preparation
Leading up to the event, security was significantly bolstered to ensure the safety of the international and local guests.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) deployed 275 officers and 29 specialized vehicles, while the Nigeria Police Force and NSCDC maintained a “zero-tolerance” presence at strategic entries into the capital.
The week-long activities concluded on a spiritual note on Sunday with an interdenominational thanksgiving service at the International Convention Centre, where Soludo urged Ndi Anambra to remain united in the pursuit of a “prosperous and liveable homeland.“
In his inaugural address, Governor Soludo reaffirmed his commitment to the “Solution” agenda, focusing on infrastructure, digital transformation, and human capital development.
He thanked the people of Anambra for their overwhelming trust and pledged that the next four years would solidify the state’s position as the “Light of the Nation.”
