Several American warplanes crashed in Kuwait on Monday morning, but all crew members survived, according to the country’s defence ministry.
Officials said the cause is under investigation. Search and rescue teams evacuated the crews and transported them to hospital, where their condition is stable.
Black smoke was seen rising near the US embassy in Kuwait, though the embassy did not confirm a direct hit.
It issued a security alert warning of “continuing threat of missile and UAV attacks” and advised people to avoid the area. Embassy staff are sheltering in place.
Iran pressed on with a third day of strikes in the Gulf, targeting US bases and allies. A US base and a power station in Kuwait were hit, while blasts rang out in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Doha, and Manama.
Authorities confirmed five deaths across the Gulf, including one in Kuwait.
Iran’s army said it fired 15 cruise missiles at Ali Al Salem air base and vessels in the Indian Ocean.
Shrapnel also struck Mina Al Ahmadi refinery, injuring two workers but not disrupting production. Sirens sounded across Kuwait City as drones were intercepted at dawn.
Residents expressed fear as smoke billowed over a northern power station. One witness said fuel containers were damaged by shrapnel.
The attacks is Kuwait’s most serious escalation since the 1990 Iraqi invasion.
