First Lady Oluremi Tinubu Inaugurates National Assembly Chapel

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu on Sunday inaugurated the National Assembly Christian Fellowship Chapel, a 750-capacity building within the Assembly complex in Abuja.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mrs Tinubu said the chapel symbolised accountability. “May this chapel inspire humility in leadership, courage and compassion in service to humanity as a whole,” she said.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio asked Nigerians to look beyond religion and focus on quality leadership. He described the chapel as a moral compass for governance and called for continuous prayers for the nation.

Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu said the chapel showed that public service and faith are not in conflict. He described it as a covenant for Nigeria’s growth and stability.

Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume commended the 10th Assembly for completing the project. He called for unity and prayers for all national institutions.

Former Head of State Yakubu Gowon urged lawmakers to make decisions that promote unity. “Many shed blood to keep Nigeria united. Do not let those sacrifices be in vain,” he said.

Former Speaker Yakubu Dogara recalled that the project began in 2016 but faced funding challenges. He said the chapel must remain centered on Christ and serve as a place of repentance and healing.

Delivering the sermon, Bishop Matthew Kukah asked legislators to embrace humility before God. He said laws must benefit both rich and poor and advance national development.

Senator Bono Yaroe, president of the fellowship, said the idea began in the 7th Assembly to provide space for worship.

He urged Christian lawmakers to use the chapel sincerely and pray for God to heal the nation.
