Opposition Leaders Reject Amended Electoral Act, FCT Election Result

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Partyโ€™s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, and former Osun State governor Rauf Aregbesola among others met Thursday in Abuja to present their position on the amended Electoral Act and other national issues.

The meeting took place at the Lagos/Osun Hall of the Transcorp Hilton, with opposition leaders expected to brief journalists on contentious provisions of the law signed recently by President Bola Tinubu.

In their announcement, they have rejected the act, particularly its allowance for manual transmission of election results. They insist that real-time electronic transmission from polling units should be mandatory.

Ajuri Ahmed of the New Nigeria Peopleโ€™s Party told reporters, โ€œStatistics available to us show that election results can be transmitted from every polling unit. Why then include the manual proviso?โ€

He alleged the APC is working to present Tinubu as the only serious candidate in 2027.

The leaders also dismissed the recent FCT Area Council election, calling it a failed test for the new INEC chairman.

Among others present were former Senate President David Mark, Rotimi Amaechi, Buba Galadima, Senator Dino Melaye, Bolaji Abdullahi, Ralph Nwosu, and Liyel Imoke.

The results can be shared in real time yet it is being fought against.
The results that we already know has been set and ready to air what’s in their script.
I would suggest anybody going out of their way, to please relax, even if somehow the results were done in real time, the set up that they want to be shown, will be shown. But I do understand the struggle to get at least one thing right in this country. I commend it, if anything I am rooting for you. Fight on you patriotic Nigerian! Fight on!!!
