Dr. Moses Paul, candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the Abuja Municipal Area Council chairmanship election, has rejected the February 21 results, alleging irregularities.
He insisted the declared outcome does not reflect the will of the people.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced Christopher Maikalangu of the All Progressives Congress winner with 40,295 votes out of 62,861 valid ballots.
Paul came second with 12,109 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party candidate polled 3,398.
In a statement, Paul alleged voter suppression, vote buying, intimidation of supporters, and manipulation of results.
“What we witnessed was not merely a contest for office, but a declaration of dignity by a people who refuse to surrender their future,” he said.
The Obidient Movement also rejected the outcome. Its National Coordinator, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, alleged harassment of ADC agents, violence, and poor voter turnout.
He accused INEC of splitting polling units without proper notice, making it difficult for voters to locate centres. “We were clearly ahead in the polls, yet what we witnessed was a criminal subversion of that will,” Tanko said.
APC, the winners of the AMAC election has not reacted to the position of losing party.
According to the Nigerian constitution, once election winner is declared, it can only be upturned through the judicial system.
