The Labour Party has named Prince Kennedy Ahanotu as its presidential candidate for Nigeria’s 2027 general election, following a consensus decision at its national convention in Abuja.
The event took place in the Federal Capital Territory, where party leaders also confirmed candidates for governorship and National Assembly seats across the country.
Ahanotu accepted the nomination, describing it as a shared responsibility to unite the party and present a credible alternative ahead of the 2027 vote.

The Labour Party, which gained momentum during the 2023 elections, continues to position itself as a platform focused on workers, youth inclusion, and governance reforms.

Ahanotu outlined a four-point agenda centred on economic growth, education, security, and infrastructure.
He said his administration would prioritise job creation by supporting small businesses, agriculture, and local industries.
“The time has come for practical solutions.”
“The time has come to restore hope.”
On education, he pledged investment in schools, teacher training, and technology to prepare young Nigerians for global competition.
He also placed strong focus on youth inclusion in leadership and economic development.
“Our youths are not asking for opportunities because of their age.”
“They are asking for opportunities because of their abilities, talents, and contributions.”
Security, he added, would combine stronger institutions with justice and economic opportunity to address root causes of violence.
Call For Unity And National Renewal
Ahanotu called on party members to close ranks and build a stronger political structure nationwide ahead of the election.
He framed the 2027 race as a defining moment for Nigeria’s future direction.
“This election is not merely about changing leaders; it is about changing the direction of our nation.”
He also appealed directly to undecided voters to engage with his ideas and hold leaders accountable.
“I do not ask for your vote today. I ask first for your attention.”
“Listen to our ideas. Examine our plans. Judge our commitment.”
The Labour Party candidate positioned himself as a unifying figure, pledging inclusive leadership across regions and social groups.
“I offer myself not as a ruler but as a servant of the people.”
