Terrorists attacked a Joint Task Force (JTF) base in Gwana District, Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State on Sunday, February 22, 2026, killing two soldiers and a vigilante.

The assault, which began around 4:32 p.m., also led to the abduction of three community members.

Police spokesperson, Superintendent Nafiu Habib, confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday.

“Two soldiers attached to 33 Artillery Brigade, Bauchi and a vigilante paid the supreme price during the encounter. Three members of the affected community were also abducted, and about seven bandits were neutralised by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Police during the gun duel,” he said.

Habib added that additional security forces have been deployed to restore order and protect residents.

Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, assured that intelligence operations are ongoing to track fleeing suspects and secure the release of abducted victims. “Further updates will be provided as the situation unfolds,” the statement noted.
