Uba Sani Hails Launch of African Social Media Platform LekeeLekee

Senator Uba Sani, Governor of Kaduna State, has congratulated Prince Nduka Obaigbena, Chairman of Arise News Tvv and THISDAY Media Group, on the successful launch of the LekeeLekee platform.

In a letter dated February 16, 2026, Governor Sani described the launch as a moment of national pride and a major milestone for Nigeria and Africa’s digital future.

He noted that LekeeLekee is now officially live on the App Store, Google Play, the web, and as a Progressive Web App, making it widely accessible to users across different devices and internet conditions.

“It is with great pleasure and a deep sense of national pride that I extend my warmest congratulations to you on the successful launch of LekeeLekee,” the governor wrote.

A New African-Owned Social Media Platform

Governor Sani described LekeeLekee as more than just another social media platform. According to him, it represents the emergence of an African-owned digital ecosystem deliberately built to serve African realities.

LekeeLekee is designed to function effectively in areas with weak or underserved internet networks.

It offers low-data, high-speed feeds, allowing users to browse content without consuming excessive data.

The platform also includes messaging features with voice notes, community groups for discussions, and a moderation system aimed at maintaining respectful and constructive engagement.

Unlike many global platforms built primarily for Western markets, LekeeLekee is tailored to African users. Its structure reflects local communication styles, connectivity challenges, and the need for inclusive digital participation.

Governor Sani said the platform answers a longstanding need for a social media system created from within Africa’s context rather than imposed from outside.

Challenging Global Digital Dominance

The governor praised Prince Obaigbena for what he described as a bold and visionary initiative.

He said the launch of LekeeLekee demonstrates a continued commitment to media freedom, democratic vitality, and Africa’s rightful place in the global digital space.

By creating an African-owned super app, the ARISE and THISDAY Media Group is positioning the continent not just as a consumer of global content, but as a creator and distributor of its own narratives.

Governor Sani noted that the platform could help reshape how African stories are created, shared, and monetised.

He described the launch as a decisive step toward challenging entrenched global dominance in the digital content industry.

For Nigeria and indeed for Africa, this is a defining moment,” he stated.

Empowering Africa’s Youth and Entrepreneurs

Governor Sani also highlighted the long-term impact LekeeLekee could have on innovation, civic engagement, and entrepreneurship.

With Africa’s youthful population being energetic, creative, and digitally fluent, he said the platform offers an opportunity to empower rather than exploit users.

It creates space for African voices to be heard, African businesses to grow, and African culture to flourish online.

The governor assured Prince Obaigbena of the full support of the Kaduna State Government as LekeeLekee begins operations.

“May it soar, like the bird whose name it bears, carrying African voices across the world; pure, proud, and powerful,” he concluded.
