Dami Marshal, daughter of Fuji music legend KWAM 1 (King Wasiu Ayinde Marshall), has denied rumors linking her romantically with Afrobeats singer Asake, insisting that their recent encounter at a Lagos nightclub was simply their first meeting.
The clarification comes after a video and photos of the pair circulated widely on social media, sparking speculation about a possible romance.
The rumours gained traction last week when images and clips of Marshal and Asake together appeared online.
Some blogs and entertainment pages suggested a romantic involvement, which quickly drew attention from fans and social media users across the country.
In response, Marshal took to her Instagram account on Sunday, February 8, 2026, to set the record straight.
She said that the encounter was purely professional and that there is no romantic relationship between her and the singer.
“Guys, that was my first time meeting him, so I took a picture. Do not believe blogs, they can do anything for traffic. And I am not a media personality, I am a legal practitioner, currently serving as SSA to Mr. Gov. Address me well next time,” Marshal wrote.
Marshal, who serves as Senior Special Assistant on Tourism, Arts & Culture to the Lagos State Governor, urged social media users and bloggers to verify information before spreading unconfirmed claims.
She reiterated that the story linking her to Asake was baseless, stressing the importance of responsible reporting.
Fans have praised her prompt clarification, noting that it helped calm online speculation and preserve her professional image.
Marshal continues to balance her career in law and public service with her family ’s musical legacy, maintaining a reputation for transparency and professionalism.
Asake, widely recognised for his influence in the Afrobeats genre, has not publicly commented on the viral video. The singer is known for keeping his personal life private, although rumours and speculation often follow public appearances.
This episode highlights the growing influence of social media on public perception, especially for celebrities and public figures in Nigeria and the need for careful and factual reporting.

I really do not understand these blogs, so if they are dating or romantically involved, what is the public business with their personal life? This is how entitlement mentality is formed, one thing to another.
