Tottenham Hotspur have dismissed head coach Thomas Frank after just eight months in charge following a dismal run of domestic results that has left the North London club battling near the bottom of the Premier League table.
The Premier League club confirmed the departure of Frank on Wednesday, ending his tenure after Tottenham’s 2–1 home defeat to Newcastle United on Tuesday, a result that extended their poor run of form and triggered a change in leadership.
Spurs announced that the decision was made by the club’s board after careful consideration of results and performances this season.
“The Club has taken the decision to make a change in the men’s head coach position and Thomas Frank will leave today,” Tottenham said in a club statement.
“Thomas was appointed in June 2025, and we have been determined to give him the time and support needed to build for the future together. However, results and performances have led the board to conclude that a change at this point in the season is necessary.”
Frank, 52, took over managerial duties at Tottenham in June 2025, succeeding Ange Postecoglou, who had delivered the club’s first major trophy in nearly two decades by winning the Europa League.
Expectations were high when Frank was appointed, given his successful spell at Brentford where he transformed the club into a competitive Premier League side.
However, the domestic campaign under Frank was fraught with inconsistency.
Spurs languished in 16th place with 29 points from 26 games, sitting just five points above the relegation zone and having suffered 11 league defeats, including seven at home, a worrying trend for a club of Tottenham’s stature.
Tottenham Faces a Challenging Future
Tottenham’s league struggles contrasted sharply with their European form, where they had secured progress to the Champions League last 16, but that success was not enough to shield Frank from criticism.
Home crowds increasingly voiced their discontent this season, with fans chanting for a managerial change as frustration grew over underwhelming performances.
While the board moves swiftly to identify a new technical direction, attention now turns to Tottenham’s upcoming fixtures, including a crucial Premier League derby against Arsenal on February 22, a match that could shape the remainder of their season.
The club expressed gratitude to Frank for his efforts, acknowledging his commitment and professionalism throughout his time in charge.
As the search for Frank’s successor continues, Spurs supporters will be hoping the managerial shake-up offers a catalyst for improved performances in the league and a return to more consistent form.
