Tottenham Stun Manchester City with 2–0 Victory at Etihad Stadium

Tottenham Hotspur produced a disciplined and clinical display to beat Manchester City 2–0 at the Etihad Stadium in the weekend’s English Premier League encounter

The win maintains Spurs’ perfect start to the Premier League season and sends them to the top of the table under new manager Thomas Frank.

In front of a packed stadium, City dominated possession with nearly 61% of the ball but failed to turn it into goals.

Tottenham struck with sharp efficiency. The breakthrough came in the 35th minute when Richarlison burst down the left and fired a low cross. Brennan Johnson finished at the far post.

The flag went up for offside, but VAR confirmed the goal. Away fans erupted as Spurs took the lead against the run of play.

Despite constant pressure from Pep Guardiola’s men, the Tottenham backline stood firm. Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven blocked and cleared everything, ensuring Spurs reached halftime ahead.

Palhinha Seals the Upset

City pressed after the restart. Haaland tested Vicario. Marmoush fired wide. But the breakthrough never came.

Instead, Spurs doubled their advantage. João Palhinha pounced on a defensive mix-up, blasting home the second goal. His celebration with travelling fans captured the spirit of Tottenham’s night.

Vicario, commanding in goal, denied Haaland again late on. Phil Foden and Bernardo Silva entered from the bench, but City remained blunt.

By full-time, City had 10 shots to Spurs’ 12, but the difference was Tottenham’s ruthless edge.

Managers React, Spurs Rise

Johnson praised the team’s unity. “The manager told us to stay compact and trust our speed on the break. Everyone worked for each other, and we got our reward.”

Palhinha echoed him. “The belief is real. The manager gives us confidence, and we are enjoying every minute.”

Guardiola admitted his frustration. “We had control, but control is not enough. They punished our mistakes, and we must improve.”

The result continues Tottenham’s curious record at the Etihad. Spurs have now won twice in their last four visits, a sharp contrast to only one victory in their previous eleven.

It also underlines Guardiola’s long-standing struggles against Spurs. He has now lost nine matches to them in his managerial career—more than against most other English clubs.

With new signings Mohammed Kudus and Mathys Tel already blending in, Tottenham fans dare to dream. Six points from two games and a place at the top brings fresh hope of a title challenge.

City, meanwhile, will need a quick response. They travel to Bournemouth next weekend searching for sharpness in attack and defensive stability.

Can Thomas Frank carry this momentum and turn Tottenham into genuine contenders, or will City reassert their preeminence in the coming weeks? Let’s discuss and predict here in the comments section.
