Former Nigerian Super Eagles stars Nwankwo Kanu, Austin (Jay‑Jay) Okocha and winger Finidi George are set to participate in the African Legends United Gala Match in Abuja later this month, organizers announced Thursday.
The match is part of the ACFTA Fest 2026, scheduled to run from February 26 to 28 at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium.
The legends’ game will take place on March 28, bringing together some of Africa’s most celebrated football icons.
Kanu said the event goes beyond football, focusing on unity, culture, and youth empowerment.
“It’s happening in Nigeria, and the legends are going to be there. We are going to do what we normally know how to do, and then we’ll perform and everybody will enjoy it. We are involved in this project because we want to promote the culture of Africa and, at the same time, empower the grassroots,” he said.
Other legendary players, including Daniel Amokachi and Joseph Yobo, will also feature in the match, which promises to draw fans from across the continent.
The event aims to celebrate African football history while connecting it with cultural and economic initiatives during the festival.
Organizers said the football match is a highlight of ACFTA Fest, designed to showcase African talent and foster cross-continental cooperation.
Fans have welcomed the announcement, describing it as a celebration of Africa’s football legacy and a symbol of unity and pride.
