Ronaldo and Portugal Set to Face Nigeria in Pre-World Cup Friendly

Portugal has proposed an international friendly against Nigeria’s Super Eagles ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, according to new reports.

The match is scheduled for Saturday, June 6, 2026, with Lisbon expected to host the game. Both the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have agreed to the fixture in principle, though final details are still being worked out.

Officials say the friendly will form part of Portugal’s build-up to the World Cup, while Nigeria will use the game to prepare for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Although the Super Eagles failed to qualify for the 2026 tournament, their strong performance at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco has made them an attractive opponent for World Cup-bound teams.

Nigeria’s run in Morocco showcased their competitive edge, convincing Portugal that the fixture would provide a stern test.

The last time the two nations met was in November 2022, when Portugal defeated Nigeria 4–0 in a friendly. Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes scored twice, while Gonçalo Ramos and João Mário added the other goals.

The upcoming clash will give Nigeria a chance to measure progress since that defeat, while Portugal will look to sharpen their squad against African opposition before heading to the World Cup.

Will the Super Eagles rise to the challenge in Lisbon, or will Portugal extend their dominance in this growing football rivalry?
