The Confederation of African Football has proclaimed Chiamaka Cynthia Nnadozie, the Nigeria’s Super Falcons goalkeeper the CAF Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year for 2023.
Ms Nnadozie was nominated alongside Khadija El-Rmichi of Morocco and Andile Olaminii from South Africa. She beat the other two contenders in the vote on Monday to clinch the novel golden glove.
Nnadozie currently plays professional football with Paris FC in the French Division 1 Féminine where her spectacular saves helped the team reach Women’s Champions League qualification for the first time last year. She’s Nigeria women’s national football team top goalie.
In the 2023 Women’s World Cup match against Olympic Champions Canada, Nnaedozie blocked three penalties, including one from Christine Sinclair in the 50th minute of the game.
She was awarded the Player of the Match award in that breathtaking game.
In receiving the award in person, the young 23-year-old international star thanked her fans and her team for their support.and asked young girls hoping to play international football to keep their hopes alive.
“And to all the young girls who grew up in Africa, dreaming of becoming footballers one day—believe me, dreams do come true.”
“My dad never wanted me to play, but I am sure he is going to see this tonight and he is going to be happy. Keep dreaming; keep working hard. Thank you”.
