The Anambra State Police Command has renewed its appeal to indigenes of the state, particularly young people, to consider careers in the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), stressing that the profession provides a vital platform for meaningful participation in national development.
Despite earlier campaigns, the command observed that recruitment enrolments from Anambra youths remain low.
In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Tochukwu Ikenga, the command emphasized that joining the Force offers opportunities to contribute to improved policing services, promote unity, and support nation-building.
“Joining the Police Force offers Ndi Anambra an opportunity to actively contribute to improved policing services, promote unity, and support nation-building efforts,” Ikenga said.
The command explained that greater participation of Anambra indigenes in the Police Force would strengthen community-oriented policing, enhance public trust, and improve security outcomes.
Officers with local knowledge of the environment, culture, and people are better positioned to safeguard lives and property.
Ikenga described policing as a noble profession anchored on service, discipline, and patriotism.
He highlighted structured career growth, professional training, and the chance to make a positive impact on society as key benefits of joining the Force.
“To this end, the Anambra State Police Command encourages indigenes to further see enlistment into the Police Force as a constructive way to be part of national discussions on security and governance, noting that active involvement in national institutions is essential for inclusive development and lasting peace,” the statement added.
Some youths point to perceived marginalization of the South East region when it comes to promotion in the higher echelons of the force as the reason they feel uninspired to join the force, among other reasons.
