NNPC-Chevron JV Targets 146,000 bpd Output from Awodi-07 Well in

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has announced the successful completion of the Awodi-07 appraisal and exploration well, drilled by Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) under the NNPC Ltd/CNL Joint Venture.

The company disclosed the development in a statement issued on Monday by its spokesperson, Andy Odeh.

According to the statement, the Awodi-07 well is located in the shallow offshore area of the western Niger Delta.

It was drilled as part of ongoing efforts to delineate and unlock hydrocarbon potential within the joint venture’s asset portfolio.

“Drilling operations commenced in late November 2025 and were concluded in mid-December 2025, with all activities executed safely, efficiently, and in strict compliance with approved operational and regulatory standards,” NNPC said.

It added that after extensive testing, logging, and data acquisition, the well was safely secured, marking the successful completion of the programme.

NNPC confirmed that results from the Awodi-07 well were highly encouraging, showing a substantial presence of hydrocarbons across multiple reservoir zones.

“This outcome represents a notable milestone for the NNPC Ltd/CNL Joint Venture, strengthening confidence in the underlying asset and reinforcing the prospectivity of the area,” the statement added.

The company said the success underscores the effectiveness of disciplined exploration, sound technical evaluation, and strong operational collaboration between the partners.

Joint Venture Structure

NNPC explained that it operates several oil and gas fields in the Niger Delta through its joint venture with Chevron Nigeria Limited.

Under the agreement, Chevron holds a 40% interest, while NNPC Limited owns the remaining share. This arrangement allows both companies to pool resources, expertise, and investments.

The collaboration aims to increase oil production to about 146,000 barrels per day, boosting government revenue, creating jobs, and supporting national energy supply.

Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Limited, Bayo Ojulari, commended Chevron Nigeria Limited for its operational excellence and technical competence.

“The success of the Awodi-07 well further reinforces the strength of the NNPC Ltd/CNL Joint Venture and our shared commitment to responsibly growing Nigeria’s hydrocarbon reserves,” Ojulari said.

He added that the achievement aligns with NNPC’s strategic priorities of increasing production, enhancing national energy security, and delivering sustainable value to Nigerians.

Also speaking, Udy Ntia, Executive Vice-President, Upstream, NNPC Limited, described the Awodi-07 results as proof of the value of sustained collaboration and technical rigour.

“This discovery underscores the importance of disciplined exploration programmes, strong partnerships and the positive impact of the reforms introduced under the Petroleum Industry Act,” Ntia said.

He added that NNPC looks forward to working closely with Chevron Nigeria Limited to advance the discovery toward timely development and monetisation.
