The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has confirmed that the 2026 Batch ‘A’ Stream I Orientation Course will begin nationwide on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, across all 37 orientation camps.
The announcement, posted on the Scheme’s official 𝕏 handle on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, stated that registration for prospective corps members will run from January 21 to midnight of January 23.
The Swearing-in Ceremony is scheduled for Friday, January 23, while the Closing Ceremony will hold on Tuesday, February 10, 2026.
NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, urged corps members to travel safely to their states of deployment, cautioning against night journeys.
He advised strict adherence to camp schedules to ensure a smooth and successful programme.
Established in 1973 to promote national unity after the Civil War, the NYSC mandates a three-week orientation camp as the foundation of national service.
During this period, corps members undergo paramilitary drills, physical training, lectures on national issues, and participate in the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme. Cultural and social activities are also included to foster unity, discipline, and teamwork.
The Scheme reiterated its commitment to strengthening national cohesion and preparing corps members for the remaining phases of their service year.
