A new airline, Binani Air, will commence commercial operations next Monday with initial routes covering Anambra, Lagos, Kano, Maiduguri, and Port Harcourt.
The airline, which received its Air Operating Certificate (AOC) in July 2024, is owned by Senator Aishatu Binani, widely regarded as the richest woman in Adamawa State and the North East. She also owns the largest printing press in Northern Nigeria.
Binani Air marks a historic first as the first airline in Nigeria owned by a woman.
The company also breaks new ground by appointing a female CEO, Aminatu Dahiru Chiroma, making it the first Nigerian airline with both a female owner and a female chief executive.
Industry observers say the development represents a powerful symbol for young girls across the country, showing that their dreams in aviation and business leadership are achievable.
Just yesterday, one of the airline’s Embraer E170 aircraft successfully completed a test flight ahead of the planned start of operations next week, signaling readiness to enter Nigeria’s competitive aviation market.
Binani Air’s entry is expected to boost connectivity across major cities, expand travel options, and further diversify Nigeria’s airline industry.
