Orji Uzor Kalu’s Brother Declare for 2027 Abia Governorship Under APC

As political maneuvers ahead of the 2027 general elections begin to heat up, Chief Mascot Uzor Kalu, younger brother of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has officially declared his interest in contesting the Abia State governorship.

The announcement comes less than a week after he returned to the All-Progressives Congress (APC) from the All Peoples Party (APP), under which he contested the same seat in 2023.

Addressing supporters in Umuahia over the weekend, Kalu said his aim is “to unify Abia and build a prosperous state where opportunities abound for everyone,” irrespective of party or social standing.

He pledged to unseat incumbent Governor Alex Otti, alleging that the administration “is not fulfilling his campaign promises.”

Kalu noted that he was the first to concede defeat and congratulate Otti in 2023, but was dissatisfied with the pace of development since then.

“Part of the reason I accepted the outcome of the 2023 poll was because it represented the change the people of Abia sought,” he explained.

Kalu Leverages Experience, Tinubu’s Agenda

The former Chief of Staff to ex-Governor Theodore Orji stressed that he would not rely solely on his brother’s political influence, but on his own track record.

He intends to leverage President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to advance development in Abia.

“Together, we shall leverage on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope policies to spread the dividends of good governance to the grassroots, empowering and uplifting our people through macro and micro economic systems,” he said.

Kalu added, “Our journey is not about politics as usual; it’s a call to serve and restore empathy of leadership.”

He criticised the Labour Party-led administration for limited achievements and for not delivering on key campaign promises.

Promises for Grassroots Development

Highlighting financial concerns, Kalu said Abia’s Local Government Areas are yet to enjoy full financial autonomy.

He promised “stomach infrastructure” alongside traditional developmental projects, assuring that his youth and energy would drive tangible change.

“I’m young and vibrant. I know what this state needs, and will not disappoint the people,” he declared.

He urged eligible voters to obtain their permanent voter’s cards ahead of 2027, stressing that votes must count.

It is yet to be seen the political mastery Mr. Kalu, and his elitist supporters hope to pull against a passionately popular Gov. Otti, credited for transformative governance unequalled in the history of the state since 1999.
