The row over a Peoples Democratic Party letter to the Independent National Electoral Commission kept simmering in Abuja on Monday.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, publicly challenged the National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, to prove his allegation that his signature on the letter was forged.
Ologunagba told reporters that Anyanwu actually co-signed the letter with the National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagum, in the presence of senior party leaders and sitting governors.
He said the document was one of four letters written and signed the same day inside the chairman’s office.
The controversy began when Anyanwu filed a petition claiming his signature had been forged on the August 25, 2025 letter to INEC about the party’s proposed national convention.
Ologunagba said Anyanwu waited 50 days before raising the forgery alarm. He argued that the long delay undermined the allegation’s credibility and urged security agencies to investigate quickly and thoroughly.
Ologunagba said he signed and co-signed several documents for the convention exercise.
He displayed letters and correspondences he said bore Anyanwu’s signature.
Those documents included letters on the National Convention Organising Committee and on subcommittee memberships.
“People can have alternative propaganda and twisting of stories. But what you don’t have is alternative to facts. Facts are sacred,” he said.
He reminded the public that the National Executive Committee met and approved the convention timetable on July 24, 2025.
He added that NEC directed the National Chairman and National Secretary to notify INEC of the venue, time, and agenda under Section 82(1) of the Electoral Act 2022.
Ologunagba stressed that Anyanwu was appointed Secretary of the Contact and Mobilisation Sub-committee.
He also said Anyanwu helped draft the budget for the inaugural meeting and wrote letters to committee members through his personal staff.
Ologunagba urged the Department of State Services and the police to act. He asked them to carry out a comprehensive investigation into the allegations of forgery.
The publicity secretary warned that false reports to security agencies were criminal acts that carry personal consequences. “It is criminal to make false allegations before security officials and security agencies,” he said.
He accused some people of plotting to derail the convention and prevent it from being held.
“There is a calculated attempt to derail the party and ensure that the convention is not in place,” he added.
Ologunagba insisted the party would pursue the matter to the end. He said anyone found to have lied or misled security agencies should be held to account.
