The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has cautioned its personnel to steer clear of political involvement while performing their professional duties.

The warning came from the Air Officer Commanding, Special Operations Command, Bauchi, Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Usman Abdullahi, during the 2025 annual 10-kilometre walk and jog exercise held in Bauchi on Saturday.

AVM Abdullahi reminded officers and men of the force that the Constitution mandates their neutrality in political matters. He stressed that loyalty, discipline, and professionalism must never be compromised.

“You must remain apolitical. Don’t involve yourselves in any political activities and do not engage in acts inimical to the calling of our military profession,” he said.

He urged officers to remain loyal to the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the President, and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, noting that the NAF’s integrity depends on its impartiality.

‘Fitness Is Key to Combat Readiness’

AVM Abdullahi explained that the annual fitness exercise was part of NAF’s broader effort to maintain physical and mental alertness among its personnel.

“The NAF pays serious attention to the physical fitness of all its personnel. This exercise is to increase our cohesion, maintain mental alertness, and ensure we remain combat-ready at all times,” he stated.

He commended the Bauchi State Government for its continued support to the Air Force, saying the partnership had enhanced NAF’s operational environment in the state.

Governor Hails Discipline and Team Spirit

Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, represented by his deputy, Auwal Jatau, praised the participants for their outstanding performance, describing their unity as a reflection of teamwork and resilience.

“Seeing officers, airmen, airwomen, sister security services, paramilitary agencies, and NYSC members come together in such a lively atmosphere reminds us that sports and fitness can be powerful tools for strengthening peace and solidarity,” he said.

Governor Mohammed reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to maintaining peace and stability through close collaboration with the Air Force and other security agencies.

At least 32 participants, including Airmen, Airwomen, officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Customs Service, and civilians, received awards for their exceptional performance during the exercise.
