Neymar Named Heir in Brazilian Billionaire’s £846m Will

A Brazilian billionaire has stunned many by leaving superstar footballer Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior, normally just referred to Neymar Jr, a massive inheritance reportedly worth about £846 million.

The will was formalised in Porto Alegre and authenticated on June 12. Two witnesses were allegedly present when the documents were signed.

Local media say the fortune could still face court clearance before Neymar is officially recognised as heir.

Legal complications may also arise, depending on challenges in Brazil’s inheritance law.

Why Neymar Was Chosen

The businessman was reportedly single and childless. He is said to have chosen Neymar because he “identifies with [him] on a personal level.”

He reportedly admired Neymar’s strong family bonds, especially the star’s closeness to his father, Neymar Sr. Local media noted the relationship “reminds him of his own late father.”

The Paris-born football icon has not commented publicly on the matter. For now, Neymar’s legal team has also remained silent, adding to the mystery around the inheritance.

Back at Santos

Neymar returned to his boyhood club Santos in January after a troubled stint in the Saudi Pro League with Al-Hilal.

He managed three goals in 14 appearances during the second half of the 2024/25 season. In his earlier spell at Santos, he had scored 136 goals in 225 games between 2009 and 2013.

The winger’s homecoming has been celebrated by Brazilian fans, who see it as a chance for Neymar to rebuild his career before the 2026 World Cup.

Questions: How do you think this sudden wealth change will impact Neymar’s focus on football, or will it bolster his family legacy further?
