Ekpa’s Jail Sentence Sends Strong Warning to Terrorism Sponsors – CDS

The Nigerian military high command has sent a strong message to those backing terrorism in Nigeria from abroad: stop now, or face serious consequences.

The military is referencing the recent Simon Ekpa’s six-year prison sentence handed down by a Finnish court today in Lahti as proof that no one can escape justice for supporting terror in Nigeria.

Ekpa was convicted of terrorist activities.

Reacting to this, Gen. Christopher Musa, Chief of Defence Staff, made it clear that Nigeria will not allow anyone to disturb its peace or that of any other nation.

He called the court’s decision a major win in the global fight against terrorism and extremism.

Musa’s response was in a statement by Brigadier-General Tukur Gusau, Director of Defence Information. The message was titled: “CDS commends Finnish court verdict on Simon Ekpa, reaffirms commitment to fighting against terrorism.

Global Cooperation Pays Off

Titled “CDS commends Finnish court verdict on Simon Ekpa, reaffirms commitment to fighting against terrorism,” the statement read, “The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, has expressed firm support for the judgment delivered today by the Päijät-Häme District Court in Finland, sentencing Simon Ekpa to six years in prison for terrorism-related offences.”

He stated, “This judgment sends a strong message that there is no safe haven for individuals or groups who sponsor or encourage acts of terror against Nigeria or any other sovereign state. The Armed Forces of Nigeria commend the Finnish authorities for their diligence in ensuring justice is served.”

Musa also thanked Nigerian security, intelligence, law enforcement agencies, and diplomats for their dedication and hard work in collecting evidence that secured Ekpa’s conviction.

This success, he says, shows the strength of international cooperation in tackling global threats.

He stressed that the Armed Forces are committed to partnering with global allies to dismantle terrorist networks and secure peace in Nigeria. Gen.

Musa urged all Nigerians to stay alert and assist security agencies in the fight against insurgency and violent separatist movements.

Going forward, the statement added, “Gen. Musa reaffirmed the Armed Forces’ resolve to continue working with global partners to dismantle terrorist networks and ensure lasting peace and security across Nigeria”.

He called on all Nigerians to remain vigilant and support security agencies in the ongoing fight against insurgency and violent separatist movements.
