Vinícius and Mbappé Fire Madrid to Second Straight League Win

Real Madrid continued their perfect start to the La Liga season with a dominant 3–0 win over newly promoted Real Oviedo on Sunday night.

The match, played at Estadio Carlos Tartiere, saw Madrid flex their attacking muscle and tactical depth under new manager Xabi Alonso.

From kickoff, Madrid controlled possession and tempo. Oviedo, returning to top-flight football after 22 years, struggled to keep up.

Youth and Experience Blend Brilliantly

Alonso’s lineup choices drew attention. He benched Vinícius Júnior, started Rodrygo on the left, and handed 18-year-old Franco Mastantuono his first La Liga start.

“Mastantuono played a great game. He is our present and future,” Alonso said after the match.

The breakthrough came in the 37th minute. Aurelien Tchouaméni won the ball in midfield and fed Arda Güler, who slipped a pass to Kylian Mbappé.

Mbappé turned sharply and drilled a low shot into the corner. Oviedo protested the challenge on Leander Dendoncker, but the goal stood.

Oviedo nearly equalised in the 82nd minute when Kwasi Sibo’s shot hit the post. But Madrid responded instantly.

Vinícius, who replaced Rodrygo in the 63rd minute, pressed high and found Mbappé in the box. The Frenchman finished calmly for his second goal.

In stoppage time, Vinícius capped the night with a solo effort, assisted by Brahim Díaz. He picked out the far corner to seal the win.

“Kylian is highly motivated. His energy is pushing the rest of the team,” Alonso added.

Madrid’s Defence Holds Firm Again

Madrid’s defence was solid throughout. Thibaut Courtois made key saves, and Antonio Rüdiger led the backline with authority.

This was Madrid’s second clean sheet in two games, a feat they last achieved in 2015/16.

Oviedo had chances but couldn’t convert. Their best spell came late in the second half, but Madrid’s experience showed.

The win puts Madrid joint-top of the table with six points, alongside Villarreal and Barcelona.

Can Alonso’s Madrid maintain this balance of youth and experience? Will Mastantuono become a regular starter this season?
