Nigeria’s journey at AfroBasket 2025 came to a painful end on Wednesday night in Luanda, Angola.
Senegal outclassed the D’Tigers 91–75 in a fiery quarterfinal clash, ending Nigeria’s unbeaten run and dashing hopes of a second continental title.

The D’Tigers started strong, edging the first quarter 24–23 with sharp shooting and aggressive pace.
They looked like the same team that topped their group with three straight wins, including a thrilling 88–85 victory over Tunisia.
But Senegal flipped the script in the second quarter.
Their physicality, rebounding, and defensive discipline overwhelmed Nigeria, who struggled to find rhythm.
Brancou Badio led the charge with 32 points, while Jean-Jacques Boissy came off the bench to add 21.
By halftime, Senegal had seized control. In the third quarter, they stretched the lead and never looked back.
Late Rally Not Enough
Nigeria fought back in the final quarter, winning it 20–15.
But the damage had been done. Senegal’s 53–35 rebounding advantage told the full story.
The Lions dominated the paint, controlled second-chance points, and shut down Nigeria’s perimeter threats.
After the game, Nigerian guard Ike Nwamu didn’t hide his disappointment.

“It hurts. We had high hopes… They came out with more energy. They are a really good team; it was their night tonight.”
Coach Mohamed Abdulrahman remained calm and reflective.
“This wasn’t our night… They deserve the win. I am proud of how we played. We have an identity now and we are just moving from it.”
Senegal Marches On, Nigeria Looks Ahead
Senegal’s win marks their fifth consecutive AfroBasket semifinal appearance.
They now face Angola in the next round, while Nigeria heads home to regroup.
The D’Tigers last won the AfroBasket title in 2015. Since then, they’ve struggled to reach the final again.
This year’s squad showed promise, with young talents like Chimezie Metu and Josh Okogie stepping up.
But inconsistency and lack of depth proved costly against a well-drilled Senegalese side.
