Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, secured a hard-fought 60–55 victory over Mozambique in their final Group D match at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket tournament in Abidjan.
Despite trailing 28–24 at halftime, the Nigerian side turned the tide in the final quarter, thanks to a 12–0 scoring run that left Mozambique scrambling.
The win extended D’Tigress’ unbeaten run in AfroBasket to 26 consecutive games since 2015.
Ezinne Kalu led Nigeria’s scoring with 16 points and five steals, while Murjanatu Musa recorded a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds.
Musa also added five assists and three steals to her tally. Promise Amukamara contributed 13 points and six rebounds, helping Nigeria outlast a determined Mozambique side.
Mozambique, led by Leia Dongue who scored 11 points and pulled down seven rebounds, pushed the defending champions to their limit but faltered in the final stretch. Ingvild Mucauro also put up a strong performance with 16 points and eight rebounds.
With this result, Nigeria finish top of Group D and progress directly to the quarterfinals as they continue their bid for a fourth consecutive AfroBasket title. The team’s quest also marks an opportunity to clinch a record seventh continental championship.
D’Tigress are coached by Rena Wakama, who made history in 2023 by becoming the first female head coach to win an AfroBasket title. The squad is expected to face the winner of the Group B qualification game in the knockout round.
