D’Tigress Overcome Mozambique in Tight 60–55 Win to Book Quarterfinal Spot
Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, secured a hard-fought 60–55 victory over Mozambique in their final Group D match at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket tournament in Abidjan.
Despite trailing 28–24 at halftime, the Nigerian side turned the tide in the final quarter, thanks to a 12–0 scoring run that left Mozambique scrambling. The win extended D’Tigress’ unbeaten run in AfroBasket to 26 consecutive games since 2015.
Ezinne Kalu led Nigeria’s scoring with 16 points and five steals, while Murjanatu Musa recorded a double-double with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Promise Amukamara also added 13 points, helping Nigeria outlast a determined Mozambique side.
Mozambique, led by Leia Dongue, pushed the defending champions to their limit but faltered in the final stretch.
With this result, Nigeria finish top of Group D and progress directly to the quarterfinals as they continue their bid for a fourth consecutive AfroBasket title.
As the knockout rounds approach, can Nigeria maintain their momentum and defend their crown against stronger opposition?
