Nigeria’s Super Falcons have once again etched their names in gold, lifting the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) trophy for a record 10th time.

The thrilling 3–2 comeback win over hosts Morocco in Rabat sent shockwaves across the continent and sparked nationwide celebration.

The Falcons, trailing 2–0 at halftime, roared back with goals from Esther Okoronkwo, Folashade Ijamilusi, and Jennifer Echegini.

Their victory sealed Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s football and completed the team’s symbolic campaign tagged “Mission X.”

First Lady’s Joyful Tribute

Senator Oluremi Tinubu, wife of the President, joined millions of Nigerians in celebrating the landmark achievement. In her message, she praised the team’s resilience and unity.

“I celebrate you, our beautiful and lovely Super Falcons for the landmark victory of your 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations championship,” she wrote.

“Your resounding 3-2 victory is indeed remarkable and commendable. It is not just another trophy; it is a testament to your hard work, consistency, and the indomitable Nigerian spirit. We thank God for this sweet victory.”

She described the team as “Queens of African football” and thanked them on behalf of Nigerian women and the entire nation.

“You have written your names in gold and inspired millions across the continent. Congratulations, Super Falcons! I celebrate you. Nigeria celebrates you.”

President Tinubu Salutes the Champions

President Bola Tinubu also congratulated the team, calling their performance “spectacular” and a true reflection of the Nigerian spirit.

“The Super Falcons’ spectacular performance tonight in Rabat, coming from behind to beat a spirited Moroccan side playing in front of a passionate home crowd, exemplifies the determination that defines the Nigerian spirit,” he said in a statement by his spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga.

“With hard work, dedication, and tenacity, you have achieved the mission the nation dreamed of and prayed for. The nation looks forward to welcoming our champions. Congratulations! Nigeria celebrates you.”

On his verified X handle, @officialABAT, the President added:

“They chose to accept this mission. They understood the assignment. Our Superior Super Falcons delivered in true Nigerian fashion. Never say Never. They went. They saw. They have conquered again! 10-time champions of Africa. #MissionX: COMPLETE!”

The Falcons’ victory avenged their 2022 semi-final loss to Morocco and reaffirmed their status as Africa’s most successful women’s football team.
