Barcelona Slash Madrid to Win 29th La Liga Title in El Clásico Victory

FC Barcelona has officially secured its 29th Spanish league title after a dominant 2-0 victory over Real Madrid in El Clasico on Sunday, May 10, 2026.

Goals from Marcus Rashford and Ferran Torres in the first half allowed Hansi Flick’s squad to clinch La Liga for the second year in a row. The result leaves Madrid 14 points behind with only three matches left to play.

This victory is historically significant, as it is only the second time a Clasico result has directly decided the league title. The win also confirms a trophyless season for the record 36-time champions, Real Madrid.

Barcelona coach Hansi Flick stood on the touchline despite the recent passing of his father. He watched his side race into a two-goal lead within the first 18 minutes at the newly reopened Camp Nou.

Marcus Rashford, currently on loan from Manchester United, started on the right wing in place of the injured Lamine Yamal. He opened the scoring with a brilliant 20-yard free-kick that flew into the top left corner.

Chaos In Madrid As Barcelona Eyes Points Record

Shortly after, Ferran Torres doubled the lead after a clever backheel from Dani Olmo. The crowd of 62,000 fans celebrated as Barcelona dictated the tempo of the game.

In contrast, Real Madrid arrived in Barcelona amidst internal turmoil. Midfielder Fede Valverde missed the match due to a head injury following a training ground physical altercation with teammate Aurelien Tchouameni.

Madrid also lacked the services of Kylian Mbappe, who is currently sidelined with an injury. His replacement, Gonzalo Garcia, missed a key chance early on, as did Vinicius Junior later in the game.

Barcelona remains on track to match the league record of 100 points. If they defeat Real Betis in their final home fixture, they will finish the season with a perfect home record.

Mourinho Distances Himself From Real Madrid Vacancy

As Real Madrid faces a second consecutive season without a major trophy, speculation regarding the future of interim coach Alvaro Arbeloa continues.

President Florentino Perez is allegedly seeking a permanent replacement for Xabi Alonso, who was sacked earlier this year.

Benfica manager Jose Mourinho has been heavily linked with a return to the Bernabeu. However, the Portuguese coach denied these reports during a press conference ahead of Benfica’s match against Braga.

“I have not had any contact with the Real Madrid club management, and due to my own decision, especially at the end of the season,” Mourinho stated.

The former Madrid boss appears focused on his current role in Portugal. He refused to entertain further questions about his potential interest in the vacant position in Spain.

“I will not discuss these matters with anyone. I will not talk about it,” he added.

For now, Florentino Perez has yet to find a way to break Barcelona’s domestic hold. The Catalan club’s success under Flick suggests a shifting power dynamic in Spanish football.
