Radio Nigeria’s Prime 101.5FM in Jimbe, Ajaokuta LGA of Kogi State, was attacked by suspected armed robbers in the early hours of Saturday.

The criminals stormed the station around 1 am, operated for over three hours, and carted away broadcast equipment worth millions of Naira.

The station is now off air. The robbers tied up the only security guard on duty and looted the premises without any resistance from security agencies.

“This is a major attack on the station. We are currently off air right now because our equipment have been stolen by these armed criminals. When they came, they tied up our security man on duty to carry out their nefarious activities. Where do we go from here now?” said the General Manager, Momoh Jimoh Adeiza.

He confirmed the incident has been reported to the Zonal Director and pleaded with authorities to help the station return to air.

Security Guard’s Ordeal and Items Stolen

The security guard, Mr. Daniel Haruna, narrated his terrifying experience. “They were more than 10 armed criminals that attacked our station. They came around 1am this Saturday morning with guns and cutlasses. When they pointed touch light on me, they immediately gripped me and tied me to a tree and blindfolded my eyes.”

Haruna said he was helpless and couldn’t scream. The robbers stole 22 RF amplifier modules, copper feeder lines, armoured cables, generator batteries, and audio consoles. They also vandalised parts of the station’s infrastructure.

“I could not scream because I was helpless. They operated for more than three hours before they left our station. I have never experienced this kind of thing before in my life,” he added.

Government Reaction and Security Concerns

Kogi State Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, condemned the attack and described it as “vandalisation of public infrastructure.” He assured that the government would work with security agencies to investigate and support the station’s recovery.

The incident has raised fresh concerns about the safety of media institutions and federal facilities in the state. Groups like KONGONET have called for better protection of journalists and media houses, urging the government to provide perimeter fencing and night security personnel.

This robbery is the latest in a string of attacks on public infrastructure in Kogi. The Nigerian Army recently deployed troops to nearby communities to curb rising banditry.
