FIFA Club World Cup: Cole Palmer Powers Chelsea to 3–0 to Lift Trophy Over PSG

Chelsea are Club World Cup champions once again after a dominant 3–0 win over Paris Saint-Germain at the MetLife Stadium.

Cole Palmer was the star of the night, scoring twice and assisting João Pedro in a first-half masterclass that sealed the trophy for the Blues in the inaugural edition of the 32-team tournament.

First-Half Brilliance Seals the Trophy

Despite ceding the majority of possession to PSG, Chelsea executed their game plan with ruthless efficiency.

Palmer opened the scoring in the 15th minute after reacting quickest to a deflected effort and placing a low finish past Gianluigi Donnarumma. Moments later, he doubled the lead with a composed strike after weaving through PSG’s disjointed defence.

The 22-year-old then turned provider just before halftime, bursting through midfield and delivering a well-timed pass to João Pedro, who lifted the ball over Donnarumma for Chelsea’s third in the 43rd minute.

PSG, although dominant in possession, struggled to threaten meaningfully and were denied a consolation by goalkeeper Robert Sánchez.

Palmer and João Pedro Deliver on the Big Stage

Palmer’s performance capped off a stellar summer for the England international. After being named Player of the Match in the UEFA Europa Conference League final, where he provided two assists, he stepped up again on the world stage — scoring two goals, delivering an assist, and earning the Superior Player of the Match award in the final.

His calm, clinical display continues to cement his status as Chelsea’s go-to man in crucial fixtures.

Meanwhile, João Pedro’s start to life at Stamford Bridge has been nothing short of remarkable. In just 11 days as a Chelsea player, he has scored three goals from six shots — including a brace in the semi-final and a composed finish in the final against the European champions.

With two standout performances in high-stakes matches, he’s already making headlines as one of the signings of the summer.

Maresca Makes History

Enzo Maresca, in his first competitive season as Chelsea manager, has guided the club to global glory. The Italian becomes just the second Italian coach to win the FIFA Club World Cup, joining Carlo Ancelotti — who has lifted the trophy three times.

The title represents a significant milestone for the former Leicester City manager, who has quickly instilled structure, confidence, and tactical clarity into a young Chelsea side.

A Historic Achievement for the Club

This victory marks Chelsea’s second FIFA Club World Cup title, following their 2021 triumph over Palmeiras. They are now the first English club to win the competition twice, further solidifying their status among the world’s elite.

The expanded format of the 2025 edition made the feat even more impressive, as the Blues outclassed top-tier opponents to lift the trophy.

2021: 🏆 Champions (2–1 vs Palmeiras)

2025: 🏆 Champions (3–0 vs PSG)

The £93 million prize purse, combined with the prestige of international silverware, signals a bright start to Maresca’s reign and a revival of Chelsea’s trophy-winning tradition.

As Chelsea return to domestic action, the confidence from this emphatic international win — built on youth, composure, and tactical excellence — could be the spark for a new era of sustained success at Stamford Bridge.
