The Super Falcons of Nigeria kicked off their 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) campaign in emphatic fashion with a 3-0 victory over Tunisia, thanks to a commanding performance led by Rinsola Babajide.

The game saw Nigeria dominate from the start, with Asisat Oshoala—Barcelona Femení forward and multiple-time African Female Footballer of the Year—pairing up front with Babajide in an attacking lineup.

Oshoala opened the scoring in the first half, tapping home from close range after a well-placed cross by Babajide.

Shortly after, Babajide doubled the lead with a sharp finish of her own and celebrated by replicating Diogo Jota’s signature routine—a tribute to the late Portuguese forward, as she formerly played for Liverpool Women.

The Falcons went into halftime 2–0 up, with a third goal by defender Ashleigh Plumptre ruled out by VAR for offside.

In the second half, head coach Randy Waldrum rotated his squad, introducing Chinwendu Ihezuo and Esther Okoronkwo for Babajide and Oshoala.

The substitutes made an immediate impact, with Okoronkwo providing an assist for Ihezuo, who calmly slotted in Nigeria’s third goal in the 84th minute.

Okoronkwo later went on to be voted the Woman of the Match.

With three points secured, the Super Falcons now sit comfortably atop their group and will next face Botswana in their second group-stage fixture.
