Lawyer and political activist Deji Adeyanju has called on Omoyele Sowore to join the rising coalition movement that aims to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections.
In a message posted on his X handle, Adeyanju appealed directly to Sowore’s sense of political urgency.
“Dear Egbon @YeleSowore,” he began. “I know you are different and unlike the thieving Nigerian politicians but please consider joining the coalition sir.”
He acknowledged Sowore’s deep-rooted activism and ideological stance but urged him to think beyond principles.
“Politics is different from morality and activism; it’s a game of numbers,” he wrote. “Extraordinary circumstances call for extraordinary measures.”
Adeyanju added that Sowore’s decision to join the coalition could win him “the permanent respect and admiration of all Nigerians.”
He closed the appeal with: “Respect and love always even if you don’t join.”
Sowore Replies: “I Have Only One Allegiance”
In a fiery response, Sowore rejected the idea of joining forces with politicians he believes have betrayed the nation.
He posted a lengthy thread on his X handle, distancing himself from Nigeria’s major political actors.
“I did not join Bola Ahmed Tinubu in distributing heroin and cocaine in Chicago.”
“I did not join Atiku Abubakar in looting the Nigerian Customs dry.”
“I did not join David Mark when he stole funds meant to fix our telephones and later helped to crush our democratic hopes on June 12.”
He went further, naming many prominent figures he said he never allied with, including Abubakar Malami, Nasir El-Rufai, Peter Obi, Chibuike Amaechi, and others.
“I have never joined an armed robbery gang.”
“I have never pledged allegiance to any cult gang—no matter how popular, powerful, or fanciful.”
Sowore declared that he would only join forces with those truly committed to justice.
“I stand with a vanguard of justice. A coalition of truth. A revolutionary team to restore the dignity of the Nigerian people.”
Sowore’s Stand Remains Unshaken Despite Pressure
Sowore has never held an elected or appointed government position.
After university, he became a full-time activist and later founded Sahara Reporters, a media platform once seen as a pioneer in online investigative journalism.
While he maintains a loyal following among some youth groups, critics argue that he lacks the electoral reach needed to influence elections.
But Sowore remains unfazed. His identity, as he often reminds Nigerians, is not in power but in protest.
“Nigeria must be free from these evildoers,” he says. But how?
Whether this position earns him more political sympathy or leaves him even more isolated is a question that only time will answer.
