Gunmen abducted a pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Faturoti Olaniyi, in the early hours of Wednesday, June 24, 2025, in Karu, Nasarawa State.

The attackers stormed his residence located at the RCCG facility near Bristol Academy, within the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) area in Karu.

They arrived around 1:30 a.m., fired multiple gunshots, and dragged the pastor away to an unknown location.

A local source said residents were frightened and ran for safety as the gunmen operated without resistance.

“They fired several shots and whisked him away while people screamed and fled in fear,” the source said.

Security Teams Launch Rescue Operation

Shortly after the incident, security operatives and local volunteers launched a joint operation.

The rescue team included police officers, local vigilantes, hunters, and other community security agents.

They immediately blocked possible escape routes and began searching nearby hills and bushes.

As of the time of this report, the pastor is still being held captive.

“The search and rescue efforts are ongoing,” a security officer confirmed.

Residents of the area remain worried over the growing insecurity, calling for tighter patrols and better protection.

Community in Shock, Church Silent

The Redeemed Christian Church of God has not yet made an official statement on the abduction.

Locals said the attack has increased fear in the community, especially among religious groups and institutions.

“We are not safe anymore. If a pastor can be taken from his house like this, who is safe?” a resident asked.

Many residents are hoping the ongoing manhunt will lead to Pastor Olaniyi’s safe return.

Security analysts have urged authorities to strengthen intelligence gathering and response in suburban areas like Karu.

The Nasarawa State Police Command is yet to release full details of the incident.
