Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, has rubbished the formation of the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), a proposed opposition party, describing it as a weak political stunt with no serious impact.
In his reaction shared on Friday through his official X account, Keyamo mocked the idea, saying it falls far below the strategic formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2013.
“If they are thinking of recreating what the APC did in 2013, then this is nothing but a pedestrian joke; a complete mockery of that seismic political coalition,” he posted.
ADA Described as Mere Registration Bid Without Much Support
The All Democratic Alliance is being driven by the National Opposition Coalition Group.
Reports say the group includes prominent political figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Governors Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State and Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, and Umar Ardo, a former aide to President Olusegun Obasanjo.
These politicians reportedly applied to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Thursday to register the ADA as a political party. The application was acknowledged by INEC on Friday.
Despite the involvement of these high-profile names, Keyamo played down the relevance of the move. He argued that the registration effort is being wrongly framed as a coalition. “This is just a simple application for party registration. There is nothing like a ‘coalition’ here,” he said.
He further described the entire process as a “psychological game” aimed at stirring public excitement. “It is an unnecessary hype the promoters have been struggling to create all along; it is just psychological warfare on Nigerians — a weak attempt at mass appeal,” he added.
Keyamo said no formally recognised political parties are behind the application, suggesting it is only a personal venture by a small group of politicians. “This is not different from several political associations springing up every day for the same purpose,” he stated.
In his closing remarks, the minister described the event as anticlimactic and lacking any serious political depth. “After all the razzmatazz, it boils down to the fact that a new political party is just attempting registration by a few Nigerians — it is a disappointing anti-climax to all the preceding pomp and pageantry,” Keyamo wrote.
