A New Party Is Born! All Democratic Alliance Seeks to Be Registered as Nigeria’s Newest Political Party

A new mega political party to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) may be about to be born. The Nigeria National Coalition Group (NNCG) has taken a major political step by formally applying to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the registration of a new political party.

The proposed party is named the All Democratic Alliance (ADA) and will use the slogan Justice for All.

The application letter, dated June 19, 2025, was acknowledged by INEC the following day. It was signed by the association’s Protem National Chairman, Chief Akin A. Rickets.

The letter was made public in Abuja on Friday. It stated that the formation of ADA followed a decision by the NNCG to sponsor a fresh political platform for the 2027 general elections.

According to Chief Rickets, “We respectfully write to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, requesting the registration of our association, the All Democratic Alliance, ADA, as a political party.”

ADA Outlines Party Identity and Submits Constitution, Flag and Manifesto

The letter detailed ADA’s identity, including its full name, acronym, slogan, logo, and party colours. The party flag displays its name, acronym, and motto. The logo also includes a symbolic image of corn (maize), which the group says represents food security and prosperity.

Alongside the application, the group submitted key documents, including the party’s manifesto and constitution.

The constitution, according to the letter, outlines the party’s legal structure, identity, internal governance, and goals. These were drafted to comply with Sections 40 and 222 of the Nigerian Constitution, Section 75 of the Electoral Act (2022), and international democratic standards.

Chief Rickets added, “We have also herewith attached our logo describing in details the symbolism of our party colours and the corn (Maize)… our manifesto encompassing our ideology… and minutes of meeting.”

He ended the letter by stating, “While we eagerly await further action from the commission… please accept the consideration of our highest respect.”

Coalition Includes Top Political Figures and Former Government Leaders

The NNCG consists of several prominent Nigerian politicians who are seen as critical of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

Key members include former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai. Also involved is Dr. Umar Ardo, convener of the League of Northern Democrats, along with many others.

Initially, the group considered joining an existing political party. Both the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) tried to gain the coalition’s support.

However, there were signs of potential irreconcilable internal disputes and court battles within those parties. This led the coalition to explore starting a new party where everyone could begin with equal membership rights.

The committee assigned to investigate this path was chaired by Rotimi Amaechi. It submitted its final report a week ago, recommending the formation of a new political party. This recommendation eventually led to the submission of the ADA application to INEC.

The move sets the stage for what could become a major political showdown ahead of the 2027 elections, as opposition figures seek a united platform to challenge the current government.
