The 2025 American Music Awards (AMAs) returned with glamour and excitement on Monday night in Las Vegas. The AMAs, known as the largest fan-voted music awards show, recognised top artists across various genres.
The star-studded event took place at the Fontainebleau Hotel in Las Vegas, and streamed live Paramount+ with Showtime. Fans worldwide also tuned in to vote and celebrate their favourite acts.
Kendrick Lamar, who had 10 nominations, won only one award: Favorite Hip-Hop Song. He was nominated in major categories, including Artist of the Year and Song of the Year, but those titles went to Billie Eilish.
Post Malone, nominated in eight categories, ended the night with two wins. He picked up Favorite Country Song and Favorite Male Country Artist. His switch to country music appears to be paying off with growing fan support.

Billie Eilish’s win for Song of the Year confirmed her continued dominance in the pop scene. She also took home Artist of the Year, giving her a major spotlight during the show.
Chappell Roan and Shaboozey, each with seven nominations, also saw increased attention from fans. Both artists delivered strong performances and secured recognition for their rising influence in music.
Taylor Swift Skips the AMAs, Leaving Fans Disappointed
Taylor Swift, the most-awarded artist in AMA history with 40 wins, had six nominations this year but won none. Fans had hoped she would make a surprise appearance or announce Reputation (Taylor’s Version). However, Swift did not attend the event, and no announcement was made, leaving fans surprised and disappointed.

Social media buzzed throughout the night with speculation about her absence. Some fans noted that Swift’s focus might now be on her ongoing global tour and studio projects.
Jennifer Lopez hosted the ceremony for the second time, her first being in 2015. She also opened the show with an energetic dance performance that set the tone for the evening.

Other major performers included Benson Boone, Gwen Stefani, Janet Jackson, and Rod Stewart. Their performances drew loud cheers from the audience and kept the energy high all night.
Janet Jackson received the Icon Award in recognition of her decades-long contribution to music and pop culture. Rod Stewart was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award, celebrating his enduring impact on global music.
AMAs Make a Strong Comeback After Two-Year Break
The American Music Awards were first held in 1974, created by TV legend Dick Clark. After nearly 50 years, the show went on a break in 2023. Last year, a special 50th-anniversary celebration aired in place of the main event.
This year’s full return brought back the excitement and glitz fans have come to expect. The audience included stars, producers, and fans who have supported the awards over the decades.
With the industry constantly evolving, this year’s show reflected current music trends, new breakout stars, and the enduring power of fan voting in shaping global recognition.
