Former President Biden Diagnosed With Aggressive Prostate Cancer

Former U.S. President Joe Biden, 82, has been diagnosed with an aggressive prostate cancer that has spread to his bones. His office made this known on Sunday after a medical evaluation last week.

The diagnosis came after Biden experienced increasing urinary problems. Doctors found a nodule on his prostate, which led to further testing. They confirmed the cancer on Friday and said it is a high-grade, fast-growing type with a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5).

“Last week, President Joe Biden was seen for a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms,” the official statement said. “On Friday, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, characterised by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone.”

Biden’s team added that the cancer is hormone-sensitive, which makes it more treatable. “While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management,” the statement read.

Family and Doctors Explore Treatment Options

President Biden and his family are in discussions with his medical team. They are reviewing several treatment options. Common treatments for such cancer include hormone therapy, chemotherapy, and advanced radiation treatments.

Doctors say modern medicine gives hope, even in such cases. Prostate cancer specialists noted that patients with bone metastasis can live for years if treated properly.

Dr. Judd Moul of Duke University told a U.S. newspaper that many patients in Biden’s condition live for several years. He said some even die from natural causes instead of cancer.

However, experts estimate the five-year survival rate for this stage is between 30% and 40%.

Trump, Harris, and Others Wish Biden Well

President Donald Trump sent a message of support through the White House’s X handle. “Melania and I are saddened to hear about Joe Biden’s recent medical diagnosis. We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery.”

Former Vice President Kamala Harris also offered kind words. “Joe is a fighter — and I know he will face this challenge with the same strength, resilience, and optimism that have always defined his life and leadership,” she said on X.

Biden’s health has long been a subject of discussion. Before becoming President, he had several non-melanoma skin cancers removed. In 2023, doctors removed a cancerous lesion from his chest.

Despite his age and medical history, Biden remained active in public life. But this diagnosis may affect his future political activities, especially as talks about the 2024 election continue.
