Russian Port City Hit by Alleged Ukrainian Drone Strike—Mayor Declares Emergency

The mayor of Novorossiysk, a major Russian port city on the Black Sea, declared a state of emergency on Saturday, May 3, after what local officials described as a Ukrainian drone attack.

The strike reportedly damaged a grain terminal and several residential buildings, injuring five people.

Mayor Andrei Kravchenko shared video footage on his Telegram channel showing shattered windows, collapsed balconies, and wreckage spread outside apartment complexes.

A car was crushed under debris, and three residential buildings suffered severe structural damage. Among those injured, officials said, was a critically wounded woman now in the hospital. Two children were also reported hurt.

Fire at Grain Terminal

Veniamin Kondratyev, governor of Russia’s Krasnodar region, said falling debris from the destroyed drones hit three storage units at Novorossiysk’s grain terminal, sparking a fire. Fortunately, no casualties were reported at the facility.

Delo Group, the company that owns the terminal, confirmed the fire had been extinguished. Cleanup efforts were ongoing, and operations at its DeloPorts terminals were continuing under official guidelines.

The port of Novorossiysk is one of Russia’s most crucial hubs for grain exports, handling millions of tons of shipments annually. The attack comes amid rising tensions over global food supplies, with disruptions in the Black Sea corridor affecting markets worldwide.

Ukraine Yet to Deny or Accept Responsibility

There has been no official reaction from Ukrainian authorities regarding the reported strike. However, Ukraine’s air force stated Russia carried out a major overnight assault using 183 drones and two ballistic missiles.

Since the start of the conflict, both nations have accused each other of targeting key infrastructure.

The war continues to impact trade routes, with Ukraine’s grain shipments and Russia’s supply chains both facing uncertainty.
