POEM: “Forgiveness: A Questioning”

What is forgiveness, really?
Is it forgetting, or simply letting go?
Is it the absence of pain,
or the presence of understanding’s glow?

Does forgiveness mean the wound is healed,
or just that the scar is concealed?
Is it a choice, or a feeling that’s real?

How do you forgive when the hurt runs deep?
When memories linger, and pain still seeps?

Has anyone truly forgiven someone?
What did it feel like to release the weight?
Have you forgiven yourself?
How did it feel to open that gate?

To err is human, to forgive divine,
But how divine is it to forgive in time?
Where does the pain go after forgiveness?
Is it lost in a sea of forgetfulness?

They say an unforgiving soul turns black,
But what if that soul’s been hurt too much to turn back?
What if it simply forgot how to let go,
And now carries a weight that it can’t show?

Is forgiveness happiness, or just a calm sea?
Is it breathing easy after holding misery?

What is forgiveness, actually?
A feeling, a choice, or just a word?
Does it mean the pain is gone,
or only a little less absurd?

Is forgiveness forgetting, or remembering with peace?
Is it erasing the past, or rewriting it to release?

Well asked question. To us, believers, forgiveness is giving yourself peace from carrying the burden of that hurt and pain. One can release it into God’s hand, so one can move on with the business of living. We must heal, and time helps us to do so.
