POEM: “Illusion”

I was his and he was mine.
We did everything together like a vine.
We thought alike,
As if we were entwined.
We had a bond,
So in sync like lemon and lime.
We were blinded by trust,
We didn’t have to read to sign.
We never had fights or fallouts,
We just didn’t have it in our spine.
We were the perfect pair,
We gave our all to each other,
Even to our last dime.
We were the power couple,
That divorced, married, separated,
And those in relationships saw it as a crime.
We cared for each other,
And extended that care around,
So people felt fine.
We thought it was love,
B’cos we didn’t treat each other like slime.
Until I started hearing the hell in his hello,
Hidden so perfectly with style.
Losing grip on my reality,
Questioning this reality,
As I walked down the aisle.
Seeing him wed another on our wedding day,
I questioned my sanity,
On how he could be so vile.
