Brigadier General Timothy Opurum, Commander of One Brigade, Nigerian Army, claims military efforts have reduced terrorist activities in Zamfara and Kebbi States. He spoke on Tuesday evening during a Sallah luncheon at the Brigade Cantonment in Gusau.
“The One Brigade has been doing well in our operation, especially the ongoing Operation Forest Sanity III,” he said. “A few months ago, the security situation was tougher, but with our troops’ efforts, we now dominate our area and have subdued the terrorists to a large extent.“
He praised the troops’ dedication, saying their sacrifices have helped regain control of the region. According to him, their efforts have made it difficult for terrorists to operate freely.
More Support for Troops
General Opurum revealed that the Chief of Army Staff has approved additional logistics support to sustain operations. He encouraged the soldiers to remain committed.
“Because of the feat we have achieved, the Chief of Army Staff has graciously approved certain logistics for us to continue our operation,” he said. “It means to whom much is given, much is expected. We need to double our efforts. It is not yet uhuru; there is still a lot of work to be done.”
He added that their mission is to completely eliminate threats in the region. “We must continue to fight until we destroy all enemies of the state and make Zamfara State, Kebbi State, and all states within the Northwest region safe and secure for socio-economic progress.”
The event also included a tribute to fallen soldiers who lost their lives in combat. Officers, soldiers, and their families observed a moment of silence in their honor.
