The Akwa Ibom State Government has taken a bold step to boost support for the Super Eagles by purchasing 30,000 tickets for fans. The move is aimed at ensuring massive home support when Nigeria faces Zimbabwe in a must-win 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier.

The highly anticipated match is set for Tuesday, March 25, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo. The stadium has hosted all of Nigeria’s home games in the qualifiers and is considered a fortress for the national team.

The Super Eagles are coming off a solid 2-0 victory against Rwanda in Kigali last Friday. The win has boosted team morale and strengthened Nigeria’s chances of securing a World Cup spot.

Team captain William Troost-Ekong acknowledged the importance of the upcoming match. “We are looking forward to a win. The three points are very important for us,” he said.

He urged the team to build on their previous success. “Our aim is to take it one match at a time, collect three points here and there, and make sure we qualify for the World Cup.

The Nigerian squad has been training intensely to maintain their momentum. Coach José Peseiro has emphasized teamwork, discipline, and clinical finishing in front of goal. Fans are hopeful that these efforts will translate into another victory on home soil.

Match Details and Expectations

The Group C match will kick off at 5 PM Nigeria time. Football analysts predict a thrilling encounter, with Zimbabwe also fighting for qualification.

Akwa Ibom State’s gesture has been praised by sports enthusiasts, who believe the massive turnout will give the Super Eagles an extra boost. The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has also commended the initiative, calling it a “fantastic way to support the national team.

With an expected full-capacity crowd, the Super Eagles are confident of delivering another win and inching closer to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
