Zimbabwe‘s head coach, Michael Nees, is sending a strong message to Nigeria. He believes his team can defeat the Super Eagles. The 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier is set for Tuesday, March 25 and will take place at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
Currently, Nigeria’s Super Eagles are struggling. They sit fifth in Group C with only three points from four matches. Zimbabwe is at the bottom of the group with just two points. Both teams desperately need a win to revive their World Cup dreams.
Nees is optimistic about Zimbabwe’s chances. He says both teams are under immense pressure. “Both teams are facing a similar predicament,” Nees observed. “Nigeria, like us, has had a difficult start to the qualifiers. They are undoubtedly desperate to change their fortunes. They remind me of wounded lions, fiercely determined to bounce back.”
The Stakes Are High
This match is more than just a game. It is a battle for survival. Nigeria needs to win to keep their World Cup hopes alive. Zimbabwe also needs to secure points. A loss for either team would be a major setback.

Nees believes his team can pull off an upset, arguing that the Super Eagles are not unbeatable at home. “This will be an exciting match, and I truly believe Nigeria is beatable in Uyo,” Nees asserted. He is confident in his team’s preparation although he agres Nigeria has talented players, but believes a superior Zimbabwean strategy would balance it out.
The Super Eagles are aware of the challenge. They know Zimbabwe is coming to Uyo with a fighting spirit, so they’re preparing for a tough match. They want to prove they are still a formidable team.
The stadium in Uyo will be packed full with Nigerian fans, unforgiving if the Giant of Africa miss a slot in the 2026 congregation of greats in the Americas. The atmosphere will be electric. Both teams will give their all. The match promises to be a thrilling showdown. A fight to the finish.
