Linda Yaccarino, the CEO of X, the microblogging app previously known as Twitter, has revealed plans for the social media platform to introduce a payment system called X Money in 2025.
In a statement on X on Tuesday, Yaccarino said that 2025 will connect users of X in unprecedented ways.
“In 2024, X made a significant impact on the world. Now, YOU are the media!” she proclaimed.
“2025 X will link you in ways you never imagined. X TV, X Money, Grok, and more.
“Buckle up. Happy New Year!”
In April 2023, it was reported that Elon Musk, the owner of X indicated he intends to transform X into an “everything app” – in other words to be a comprehensive all-in-one solution.
On December 18, Musk claimed the total number of active users on X has reached one billion, with about 40% active only during major global events.
In April, Musk confirmed plans to implement charges for new users wanting to post on the platform, arguing that this is the only way to tackle the bot problem.
The billionaire claimed that the surge of fake accounts takes up valuable username space, resulting in a shortage of available desirable handles.
According to Musk, new users will have the option to post for free after a three-month period.
So far, X has begun imposing a fee of $1 per year on new users in New Zealand and the Philippines to access essential features, which include tweeting, retweeting, liking posts, and replying to messages.
