The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) announced that in the past year, Nigerian troops eliminated 10,937 terrorists, apprehended 12,538, and rescued 7,063 hostages.
Defence spokesman Major-General Edward Buba disclosed in a press briefing on Tuesday, December 31 that 16,171 terrorists and their families surrendered, while troops recovered 8,815 weapons and 228,004 ammunition, denying oil thieves over ₦68.4 billion in illicit revenue.
In the North-East, Operation Hadin Kai neutralised 3,151 terrorists and rescued 1,605 hostages, recovering 1,802 AK47 rifles and significant ammunition. In the North-Central, Operations Safe Haven and Whirl Stroke neutralised 1,047 extremists, arrested 3,001, and rescued 1,782 hostages, recovering 549 AK47 rifles.
For the North-West, Operation Hadarin Daji neutralised 2,906 terrorists, arrested 1,826, and rescued 2,616 hostages, while Operation Whirl Stroke neutralised 742 terrorists. The South-South Operation Delta Safe neutralised 78 terrorists and disrupted crude oil theft, blocking 56.2 million litres of oil.
In the South-East, Operation UDO KA targeted IPOB/ESN terrorists, neutralising 734 and arresting 974 suspects.
Buba emphasized the need for citizen support to combat terrorism effectively.
“Importantly, troops on the battlefield are in high spirits, fully committed, devoted, and believe in the justness of the cause.
“On the whole, the war is not for the armed forces alone, but for all citizens. The military, therefore, urges for more citizens’ support in order to win the war,” Buba said.
