Lukashenko’s Chilling Revelation: Belarus Now Has Nuclear Weapons And Ready to Use It

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has boasted that his country possesses nuclear weapons, saying, “I have brought in nuclear warheads – more than just a few.“

He emphasized that these tactical nuclear weapons are “probably five times more powerful” than Russia’s new hypersonic Oreshnik system.

Lukashenko’s comments came during a question-and-answer session with factory workers in Minsk on Monday. He dismissed any scepticism, saying those who doubt the presence of nuclear weapons in Belarus “didn’t even notice when we brought them in.”

The Belarusian strongman, who has ruled his country since 1994, said he well understood the grave responsibility involved in using nuclear weapons, noting that “since Hiroshima and Nagasaki, no one has pressed the nuclear button.“

However, he wanted Belarusian adversaries to imagine the consequences before crossing Belarus’ borders, stating that any aggression would immediately receive a response.

Lukashenko also discussed the planned deployment of Russia’s Oreshnik missile complex in Belarus. The system, which is not classified as nuclear, possesses one of the world’s highest firepower outside of nuclear.

He said Belarus will manufacture the launchers, while Russia will supply the missiles.

The Oreshnik system was battle-tested in Ukraine last month and is expected to fully enter service in Russia in the second half of 2025.

Belarus Nuclear Deterrence

The 70-year-old former Soviet Army officer stressed that the new missile system will serve as a deterrent against NATO aggression, saying, “If we have such powerful conventional weapons before they come to us with tanks… they will think twice.”

Belarus’ deputy chief of the General Staff, Sergey Lagodyuk, explained that deploying Oreshniks directly responds to US plans to station medium-range missiles in Germany.

Lukashenko and Russian President Vladimir Putin recently signed a security treaty allowing mutual defence. Both nations are members of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).

Belarus is not officially recognized as a nuclear state. Whether the US administration will consider Lukashenko’s claims empty bluffing or a serious threat to the strategic nuclear balance of power remains to be seen.

The prevention of nuclear proliferation is a stated foreign policy of the United States.
