At least six people were killed and eight injured when a bomb went off around the Mai Lamba axis along the Dansadau-Gusau road under the Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State on Wednesday morning.
Eyewitnesses say a Volkswagen Golf 3 vehicle drove past the explosive, setting it off.
“It was this morning one Golf 3 vehicle stepped on the bomb and exploded. We have six dead bodies here now, and eight others sustained injuries. The vehicle was wrecked.”
No group has claimed responsibility, and its motives have not been established. This is the second such incident in the area in three days.
The Nigerian military reportedly confirmed the incident and said they’re “coordinating with local law enforcement to assess the situation and ensure that those responsible do not go free.”
A Joint Task Force North West Operation Fansar Yamma coordinator, Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, said,
“Our troops are actively on the ground to prevent further incidents and ensure the safety of all commuters. Furthermore, an Explosives Ordnance Disposal team has been deployed in the area to assist in the detection and disposal of any bombs planted on the road.”
The incident has sent panic shock among residents, many of whom have no expertise in recognizing explosive devices.
