Recently crowned Miss Universe Nigeria, Chidimma Vanessa Adetsina, has been appointed “The Brand Ambassador of Enugu State” by the state government.
She was received Thursday by Gov. Peter Mbah and his cabinet at the Lion Building, the seat of government in Enugu.
Chidimma, who is partly South African, won the South African beauty crown but was stripped of it due to xenophobic sentiments. A few weeks later, she competed for and won the Miss Universe Nigeria title. She is from Amurri, Nkanu West LGA of Enugu State.
At the conferment of her ambassadorial role, Gov. Mbah said her story “embodies the resilience and determination” he hopes to see in the state youths.
“Her journey to this remarkable achievement, despite numerous challenges, is a testament to grit and perseverance,” the governor said.
He added that he was “incredibly proud” and hoped that “Chidimma’s story will serve as a beacon of hope to our young people, particularly young women. Her influence will undoubtedly inspire others to pursue their dreams, and we look forward to engaging her in programs that will empower our youths.”
As a youth-focused administration, Enugu State government dedicated 33% of the current year’s budget expenditure to education, the highest budget for education by any government in Nigeria. As the governor says, “The true wealth of Enugu lies in our human resources.”
Twenty-three-year-old Chidimma will represent Nigeria in the global Miss Universe Pageant in Mexico on Saturday, November 16.
The governor wished her well and said he hoped “she will continue to shine as a symbol of excellence and resilience.”
But beauty appears not to be far from Enugu State and the name Chidimma. In 2018, another star, Chidinma Aaron, from the state, took the nation by storm when she beat 1,000 girls across the federation to win Miss Nigeria in November that year. If the governor had to choose more ambassadors for his state, he would have many options.
